Welcome

Eiffel Tower

Cafes, art galleries, and historic walks through Hemingway’s Paris will enlighten your understanding of this famous author as well as illuminate your own sense of curiosity about the world in which you live. After arriving at Charles de Gaulle airport, you will be taken by private coach to the quaint Hotel Relais Saint-Sulpice, which sits peacefully on the Left Bank.

Three guided Hemingway Tours will have you strolling through the picturesque Jardin du Luxembourg, studying the paintings of Cezanne in the d’Orsay Museum, perusing the shelves of Shakespeare & Company bookstore, and drinking and eating in the lively and charming cafes of Paris’ Left Bank. As well, our Highlight Tour of the Musee du Louvre will provide you with the foundation necessary to return for a more personal and informed look at this stunning collection of masterpieces.

Our morning breakfast together downstairs in the hotel’s delightful breakfast room will offer the opportunity to debrief on what we have experienced and to prepare for what lies ahead. Although our Normandy Day is rather lengthy, when you are walking on Omaha Beach and dipping your hands in the sea and turning and looking back at the cliffs, there becomes a greater meaning behind the concept of freedom. And when you walk in the American Cemetery with all the perfectly lined white crosses and learn that the bodies are all facing West toward home, and when you learn that the cemetery’s land was given to the United States by the French, you will be deeply touched in your newfound connection to the people of France. Finishing the day off at Hemingway’s Bar in the Ritz located on the Right Bank—the place he helped liberate in WWII—will again provide the perfect opportunity to debrief.

Along with your guided Illumination Tour—where you see why the world refers to Paris as The City of Light—you will marvel at the cityscape as you drift along the River Seine on a dinner, wine, and dancing cruise that lasts well into the night. On our final night together, a group dinner awaits you at the remarkable restaurant, Au Vieux Paris Arcole where fresh French farm food is cooked and served to perfection by the owners.

Really, this Remembering Hemingway Tour is perfectly paced to blend Hemingway’s past experience of Paris with your own present discovery of Paris. As your guide on this journey, it is simply my pleasure to share with you the Paris that I have come to know and love!
